hope-dashed-hope-dashed

in all my 9 plus years as a Ferrari supporter, I have never witnessed such a Grand Prix like this, a suitable end to the race calendar, albeit a little disappointing. It was worth my while to watch this race

surely the start promised this, with 2 minutes to start, the race was postponed for 10 minutes due to rain. some background has to be provided here. Hamilton was on 94 points compared to Massa's 87. So for Massa to win the championship he had to be 1st and hope that Hamilton didnt get a position higher than 6th. This is how it works.

Hamilton (if 6th) 94+3
Massa (if 1st) 87+10

Hamilton: Massa
97:97 (Massa wins on more number of track wins)

The resulting 68 laps or so were nothing interesting, although it warmed by heart to see that Massa was first, and Hamilton was like 20 seconds behind, but still 5th. Everything changed in the 69th lap. Kubica in 16th, went mad and interferred with the battle between Vettel and Hamilton for 5th spot. In the ensuing chaos, it seemed that Hamilton reaped the benefit, however a split second later, Kubica's interference actually hindered Hamilton and Vettel moved from 6th to 5th which means:

Hamilton (if 6th) 94+3
Massa (if 1st) 87+10
Massa wins with 5 Grand Prix victories to Hamilton's 4

2 laps left, Hamilton incapable of closing gap. It actually seemed as if Massa had the title. And here I was watching the race, an avid Ferrari supporter, seeing the 2007 season repeat itself all over again. Massa leading from start to finish, Hamilton screwing up.....................

Then Hamiton got real damned lucky. Timo Glock's car running on 4th ran out of gas, which means when Hamilton got to the line he was 5th, just enough to take the Championship. And here were the Brazillians, thinking that Massa had pulled off the ultimate miracle, the Massa family jumping for joy. Hopes dashed.

Although Massa ma have failed due to some fluke of Hamilton's, it was evident that it was an emotional moment for both the drivers. I still hate Hamilton because of that Singapore Grand Prix, and I still dont think he deserved it.

Final result
Hamilton 94+4 (98 pts)
Massa 87+10(97 pts)

So close yet so far, you could see the disappointment and the silence of the crowd. But man, that 30 seconds of madness wwas so miraculous. Yet the miracle was dashed when Glock's Toyota stalled.

I now hate Toyota.

080808!

very slack day.. and of course.. a day where we remember the amount of brainwash.. erm I mean.. contributions, that our Minister Mentor has done for this nation. I still cant help but feel a sense of epic cynicism for whatever we have done today..

connect singapore= joke, not even in the singapore shape
singapore songs.. bah.. just brainwashing attempts..

joke day. this will go down in my memory as a fun day, but an epic failure to brainwash us. should have worn a white shirt with a red armband.. shite.

The Permanent Secretary of MCYS gave an extremely debatable and questionable speech on principles of governance today, of which some points gave rise to remarkable contradictions within themselves and the general dialogue session as a whole.

Of course, what they deemed as a dialogue session was not really a dialogue session. Remarkably, it consisted of a one man show, the Permanent Secretary, “engaging” in dialogue with 400 students when the student body neither had representatives nor had a mike to voice their opinions in the process of the session. As such, it seemed rather pointless to have such a session when the student body neither had much time to voice their opinions nor the means of making their opinions heard through the process of the dialogue session.

One can also point out to the questionable qualifications that the Permanent Secretary had while giving this questionable speech. The Permanent Secretary’s “Principles of Government” talk, of which some part was based around foreign affairs, seemed rather biased and uncomprehendable. The Permanent Secretary whose specialty lay in the community, youth, development and sports, actually gave a lecture on foreign affairs! There were 2 consequences as a result of this. Firstly, one could point out to the fact that he made Singapore look like the “Centre of the Universe”, just like Mussolini did, and that whatever Singapore was doing, in relation to the Western Countries, was unswervingly right and morally correct on comparison with the Western countries. The Permanent Secretary tried to justify what was justifiably wrong. He pointed out the “Licensing Act”, and mentioned that although the Western Countries condemned this act where Singapore tried to regulate the information on the Internet, they eventually made a U turn, and somewhat approved of the act later. PM pointed out countries such as Israel and Germany, who introduced the act to regulate anti-seministic websites and pro Nazi information respectively.

The PM’s argument failed on 2 grounds. Firstly, PM quoted a phrase from The Economist on the Licensing Act, “.. not a matter of should but how”, suggesting that Singapore was right in introducing this act. He conveniently ignored the fact that this phrase could be intentionally modified by the Singapore government, or this phrase could have been referring to a different subject altogether, as Daryl puts it, it could well be “The overthrowing of Singapore’s government is not a matter of should but how”. Secondly, the context of this argument that the Licensing Act is necessary is completely different when comparing Israel and Germany, with Singapore. The very reason for Israel and Germany doing that is for purely historical reasons, while in Singapore, the sole intention is possibly to restrict Singaporeans from getting “ideas” from the web that might possibly spell the end of PAP’s 43 year reign.

The other consequence that I referred to in the second paragraph was that people started to question his expertise in Foreign Affairs. An MCYS Permanent Secretary giving a foreign affairs lecture is tentamount to the audience assuming that since the PM really isn’t a specialist in Foreign Affairs, hence the Permanent Secretary is merely a mouthpiece for the Singapore government in trying to brainwash 18 year old kids and trying to convince them that the Singapore government is right. It is beyond a reasonable doubt that the message eventually seemed to justify the Singapore government’s actions in Foreign affairs, rather than showing us “The Principles of Governance, What Makes Singapore tick”, as the above quote was the supposed topic of the day.

One more remarkable contradiction in PM’s speech, although countless, I would have to point out to the one that I saw as most damaging to the PM’s speech. PM pointed out that the need for censorship was necessary, since there are dangerous elements out there in the internet that may damage Singapore’s religious and racial harmony. Prior to that statement, PM said that Singapore’s racial policies were successful. Now the remarkable contradiction is seen here. If Singapore’s racial policies were really that successful, is there a need for the Singapore government to introduce censorship for the sole purpose of maintaining religious and racial policies? The PM seemed to be contradicting himself, saying that Singapore’s policies were successful, then admitting that the racial policies did not have much effect since censorship was required to promote racial harmony in addition to Singapore’s racial policies. Therefore the contradiction was not explicit but implied.

There are many other contradictions that one can bring up, but I won’t, but most definitely, the PM deserved we ACSians taking potshots at him during the Q&A. The most genius of all questions “Why, were the cameras able to show James Gomez putting the election papers into his bag during GE 2006 when they failed to prevent Mas Selamat from escaping from Whitely Road Detention Barracks on the 29th Feb 2008?”

A well deserved question.

18. ?!?!

thanks for all your well wishes, I really cannot believe that I am 18. Firstly, I don't look 18. Secondly, I don't ACT 18, which is, a good thing sometimes.. From self destructive IOPs, "Brief Summary" to "Looks like my grandmother", I think I have done lots of stupid things over the last one year.

still, I cannot phantom how the same date last year came around so quickly as it came around last year. these days, the nights seem to be getting shorter and our workloads are getting higher..

but generally, it has been a wonderful week for me. thanks for all your presents and generousity. I really appreciate them.

Also, it's 3 wins in a row for my favourite sports. Man Utd won the title over the weekend, Ferrari romped to a first in the constructor's championship, and ACS(I) won A div Rugby. so it has been a rather memorable week so far.

As far as I can hope of, I hope that I can spend more time with the Lord, as well as to do well in areas which I haved screwed up in the past. hopefully these come through.

I want to thank you guys,

1) For being such a generous class
2) For giving me the surprise of my life.. Imagine the big shock when 20 of you guys started singing "Happy Birthday..", I was using my handphone, thinking, is it my birthday? I thought it was Fab's?! Then I looked at the cake, and made a mess of my handphone and the flag. It was really so sudden that it really caught me by surprise. Thanks for the big surprise once again!

One counts the number of blessings he has received over the last 18 years. I am remarkably glad that I have a good family to fall back on, remarkably glad that I am still alive, able to be blogging here about all my blessings, and that I have such a great class to be in commune with. MANY MANY self destructive IOPs, much weird stuff, many suannings, but seriously, I haved enjoyed the last 1.5 years with you guys.

Especially today, it has been a great day for me. I thank in particular Han An and Vic, for generously treating me, and the rest of you guys, who sprung this really unexpected surprise on me. It was one HELL of a surprise. "Ugly cake"!

I feel like writing a second draft of this..hmm.. words cannot express what I feel. No wait, I can't express what I feel in English..

Thanks guys! see you tomorrow!

I am really looking forward to the 2nd leg of Man Utd vs Barcelona. I am really sorry for not blogging for so long. You see, life is so routine that there is really nothing to talk about.

But I suppose the only other thing that has been interesting is my weekly visit to Chen Su Lan Methodist Home. It has been a prvillege teaching these kids amd I look forward to seeing them every week. Shao Min and Rylee have been incredibly funny at times, and I really appreciate this break from the rigours of life.

Battery = B

yay my new IBM battery has arrived.

never knew how I survived on a battery that lasted for 25 minutes at the most at any one time.

now perhaps the only problem is to improve the computer's RAM and hard disk space, since the IBM has like a 25 GB hard drive, which is pathetically small when you consider the amount of pics I have on my computer.

So anyway, looking forward to the completion of the Math Portfolio.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR YAP!

It's been a fateful few days since I last blogged. During this time, I ate TOK, drank TOK and slept TOK.

Well it's all over now and the journey has been rather amazing. To be frank, if not for the assessment rubric and what have you, I would willingly give myself a 18/20, but since I have to follow the rubric, I gave myself a 14-16. Well logical, since I did not meet some of the criteria, but if I get less than that, then I would not feel too happy about it.

But God's blessing has prevailed. In times which I panicked I knew I could count on him for help. The inspiration came through with the help of God and I am rather thankful for it. Thanks to those who gave me suggestions (and encouragements), and I am rather thankful for them.

But for now, we can only wait and see, what God has for me.

Things I cannot stand

I really detest people who try to act smart in the presence of others, and this is a classic example today.

this queer former student cum relief teacher took his place beside my music teacher who was doing a consultation with me. Well I pretty much had a good impression of him at first, a well accomplished student, a result of the 4 years of good education here in AC.

so on goes consultation, and he makes these smart ass remarks, one that goes something like this. my teacher points out a mistake I made, and I replied, "Yes I know, I will change it", then this stupid dumb ass decides to say in a quiet tone "Sometimes knowing is not good enough". He then tries to go one up, saying "Mr XXX is looking at the content, I am going further by looking at the organisation".

And I say, I'm going to the national library later for IA, then go home do TOK, then sleep. Then he says "What sleep? You should be doing work!"

What a dumb airheaded ass. my opinion of him dropped considerably, thinking of him as someone who tried to make himself look smart but ended up looking pretty stupid and giving others a bad impression of him.

Actions speak louder than words.

quite a lot of things to say since today has been quite a day..

day startedof rainy and gloomy, above all, it was a downcast day.. however that meant that PE was confined to the indoors! so it was some standing broadjump and sit and reach. after that was badminton, and more badminton games with the GREAT Gareth. Heck I think I enjoyed myself a pretty dammed lot..

recess, what more could I ask for.. nice hot ban mian with soup to warm me up and keep me full for the rest of the day.. but from here on I would like to address some issues..

1) The most annoying people are those who talk a lot and look at the bad side of people rather than the good. Granted I think in my time at ACS(I) I probably made some bad choices along the way due to my occasional stupidity, but I believe that you are not any better either. Well. What can I say. I am just glad you aint in my class no more because you are one big nuthead that ought to be slapped good in your face. The girl who actually listened to you is probably another airhead as well.

2) To another person. Well, you are a nice guy, I look at the good side of things, but you can't really differentiate pranks from serious affairs can you.. nope I dont think so. It got me quite annoyed today and really, that was quite uncalled for. Know when to stop for God's sake.

I guess I have pretty much said it all. After school was some kind of a discussion for YLS for next week, and it's NEXT WEEK!!! And we havent got much done yet!!

Well thanks for even listening to me and have a good Good Friday.!

Aiyoh!

have i mentioned that the last 4 digits of my hp number, 7155, won the 1st prize for 4D last weekend! imagine how much i could have made!

and my family's car plate number, 8166, won the starter prize!

omg! how much i would have made!

rewrite of EE 2600 plus words.

Thanks..

after that disastrous day where I basically lost it, I decided that licking my wounds and wallowing in self pity would do nothing to help a cause. What I have been doing instead is picking myself up, rewriting things that need to be rewritten, taking things from scratch, and have landed up at about 2k worth of words. a far cry from the 3.7k that I once had, but at least it's progress.

thanks tkc for helping me out, my friends, my parents and most importantly the one up there, the one who provides encouragement and support. Without you guys I would probably be dead and buried now.

1st Rant

A pretty frustrating day for me today and I ended up shedding a few tears when I got back home. 1) Never felt frustrated like that at this sort of level for a hell of a long time. 2) And even if I do, I usually don't show it.. My cheerful mood seems to cover it all up huh..

Now seriously, I have worked on that bloody thing for more than a year now. I don't find it a problem, and it makes perfect sense to me. You freaking send out mixed signals that seem to confuse me all the time and I don't really know how to respond. Now granted there IS work to be made on it, it is not perfect. But yet you say one time that some parts are good, next moment you condemm the whole thing. Goodness gracious me how I regret even choosing you as someone to help me out.

God is my cat my best friend? Goodness gracious me. 1st rant in a long time.

I swear today's PC lesson was the BOMB! Just ask Jem, Jia and Kia. Sure they will tell you the same thing!

Anyway quotes of the PC period:

"You can bring your own board games next week.." (not saying who or whether he/she meant it)

"Sir what does dy/RC equal to? 0!" (Me, referring to our most beloved PCT. Ask Jem to tell you what it means..)

My Own quotes:

"I wish Jaime had more eggs!" (me again)

Well today was a good day. Much better than yesterday.. By a mile!

One mourns the extreme loss of life.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

The thing about children is that they have something we do not have: innocence. Simply put it this way. Do they question what the meaning of life is? Or whether knowledge we value the most is one that can me most justified (TOK Q9)? The answer is a resounding No. It would take another Siddhartha to do just that.. and I dont think the next Siddhartha is anywhere amongst these children..

Children have something we do not possess. They can make you drop your weapons almost instantly, make you smile and say, "I wish I was still like them". Children are God's gift to mankind, and seriously, I wonder how people do not want to have kids... It is just so rewarding to see them grow up.

Quote of the day:

You can take the cat out of the street, but not the street out of the cat!

Tuesday, January 08, 2008

ok busybodies and more busybodies. I guess I have to apologise to Fab for spamming his tagboard once more...

but apologies aside, I think the first 2 weeks of school have been uneventful. I mean, besides starting my music investigation from scratch last Thursday and finishing with a good 2000 plus words and 11 full extracts, I guess that is relatively incredible. Plus I have a powerpoint presentation for it too!

Yesterday was fun, I mean, sitting in an auditorium with great apprehension about what to happen. Seeing our seniors waiting for their results and thinking "ONE YEAR FROM NOW IT'S OUR TURN!! NO!!!!!!!!!". That sucks. Anyway, I do not need to rattle about how good we are. Other people's blogs have it already, and besides, who really reads my blog?! Seeing our school appear on TV, and the celebrated media response, I think we really have to give credit to Dr Ong for introducing the IB programme. And Dr Ong was so freaking happy that he gave today as a holiday without thinking!

So then Chinese results. I was scared and everyone was scared. 6 or 7, SL 2 or no SL2. Glad to say I came away with 7, and no more SL2 yeah! But seriously, thanks be to God, because he promised me one even though sometimes, we do not have faith to receive it.

But finally, I still have more work to do. One more music compo to wrap things up. Almost one year anniversary to "YOUR LOYAL LOVE".

and whoop, I never heard anyone claim "you are my best friend and idol" and I really dont know what to expect so... I'm not an idol. Long long long way to go. I am not even made of stone.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS PEOPLE!

Thursday, January 03, 2008

Well here we are. Somewhere we thought we never would be. IB Y2, 18 years old. hmmmmm.... It does good to look back at those times when we were P1, another 11 years to completion of education, and 12 years to NS.

Times change, and we have changed.

So anyway, I think the first 2 days have been great. It doesnt help me thinking of last year where the radio DJ of Gold 90.5 was saying "Another 243 days of the year". Now great, we have landed up here. But 2008 is a crucial time, a time that will not be fun, but one that promises to mould our future. Beijing Olympics will also be held this year, and does it not seem too far away where the Athens Olympics were being held.

But these 2 days have been fantastic. On the 1st day of school, all of us gathered around for small chat once again, saying "Well here we are! Have you done your EE, IA, MI, TOK.... blah blah". Nice to see you guys again, and of course, the unforgettable feeling of seniority when seeing our juniors. I missed you guys mighty lots, the fantastic fellowship at the SAC, and the music listening in class. Well I dont think I was disappointed on the 1st day of school. In fact, I am quite astounded that I find a pack of guys playing cards in our class on the first day of school. Well tradition where we play cards on the last few days of school have been broken and oh! Doesnt it feel like last year?

I think everything today was great and slack except for the discipline briefing today. Not one to slam people but I find this talk pretty weird and rather dumb really.

1) Now guys cant wear black shoes. Great! A total contradiction of what the Student Council told us last year. What is the difference? Why ban black shoes for guys? Scared the guys become to girly? Aww comeon. Surely you can give us better explaination for that besides "Oh it was only for chapel. Black Leather shoes" What utter nonsence. It was a totally different story last year.

2) Gambling. How the heck do you gamble with bridge?! And who the hell wants to bet?! Come on dudes, there is a bridge club in school. So what? They bet? It was like "What the.." And the statement saying "You can play in the comfort of your own homes". Who plays bridge with your parents at home raise up your hands?

Ok I suppose that was pretty dumb. But some points though were relevant and I dont think I need to repeat something we have heard for the last 12 years.

I have spent 12 good years at this school and I think I have learnt a lot generally. GENERALLY.
